(male announcer) this is the bay area news station, kron 4 news starts now.at 11. bantand >> pam: rain hits the bay area. finally. spotty showers are expected on wednesday and thursday. this is a live look showing the spectacular new l-e-d light display on the western span of the bay bridge. i'm at the weather center with kron 4's jacqueline bennett. it is really amazing. jacqueline, how much rain will we see?

>> jacqueline: we doubtfully need the rain but it is a weird system. but now, the cold front has raced through it is already in the central valley. lingering showers behind that main band. through santa rosa, it is a dry. but through rainfall towards windsor and san rafael, some pockets of rainfall over how we 1 0 1 and. the san mateo coast line and over highway 101. of livermore. and the 580 but the big story has been the wind. 64 m.p.h.! 59 in los gatos! you can see from this bouncing camera shot. the wind is staying with us. we will time it out, coming

up. >> pam: the bay bridge lights up. becoming the worlds largest l-e-d light sculpture. kron 4's terisa estacio is live along san francisco's embarcardero she was there when the bridge lit up. and spoke to some excited spectators. terisa? >> reporter: p.m., it was really amazing and it still is. let me show you the beautiful light sculpture. there are 25,000 lights on vertical cables. stretching over a 1.8 cables. with its level of brightness, and there are patterns, designs that scatter almost like it is dancing to music. thousands came out to witness this coming to like this is what some had to say. which you think of it?

me, it is the mustache eliminated in the 25,000 lights. >> pam: the lights will remain on for seven hours each night. from dusk until 2 a-m. >> developing story. police shot a suspect in san francisco's bay view district. after the suspect led them on a chase. this is the scene shortly after the shooting. it happened in the city's bayview neighborhood near the intersection of george court and ingalls street. >> the officers spotted a car jacked vehicle from yesterday that was stolen as a carjacking with a shotgun. >> pam: police say following the chase -- the suspect reversed his car striking an officer. that's when other officers opened fired. the suspect was hit and was taken to san francisthe officere car is expected to be okay.

>> new at 11. this man -- one of three suspects in the sonoma county triple murder. is facing the death penalty. charges against mark cappello were filed in sonoma county superior court today. this is video of the scene back in february-- courtesy our helicopter partnership with a-b-c 7 news. sheriff officials say, the three men found gunned down near sebastopol. were victims of a drug deal gone wrong. police have arrested two other men in connection with the killings. francis dwyer and his son odin dwyer are in custody. offcials say, odin dwyer could be arraigned thursday. francis dwyer is out of state and is still waiting extradition. >> oakland police say, andre taray franklin. broke into the oakland museum in

january, and stole a signficicant gold artifact. franklin is accused of taking a gold jewelry box -- worth over 800- thousand- dollars. the museum offered a 12- thousand dollar reward. but announced today, the box was found, and the suspect arrested. "piece of art" . >> pam: police say, franklin has a prior criminal record, and was out on parole when he was arrested. he is also being charged with burglarizing the museum back in november. stealing 3 pistols and some gold nuggets. new at 11. san bruno police release the sketch of a man. they say try to burglarize a residence. the suspect was seen entering the side yard of a home, and kicking in the side door. trying to gain access. but the residents saw him. and he fled. he is described as hispanic. five-ten. 210 pounds. with short hair and a "scruffy" unshaven face. >> also new at 11. police say, burglars broke

into a richmond police officer's home, poisoned two of the officer's dogs, and escaped with a cache of guns last week. authorities say, the burglars made off with three "sporting guns" and two handguns. one of the dogs, a 1-year- old black labrador retriever, died in a veterinary hospital. and the other, a k-9 police dog is recovering. a 10- thousand dollar reward is now being offered for information leading to an arrest. police believe it was a targeted attack. >> pam: a memorial service for the two murdered santa cruz officers -- detective sergeant loran "butch" baker. and detective elizabeth butler-- is scheduled for this thursday. you will be able to watch the service live on kron-4s - 24 hour news channel. the tribute will be held at the h-p pavillion --- on march seventh at noon. a two- mile long motorcade procession will make its way from santa cruz beach. to the h-p pavilion that morning.

less time confiscating small things like hand held knives and sporting equipment starting on april 25th, airline passengers will be allowed to carry on knives with blades shorter than 2.36 inches long and ½ an inch wide. knives with locking or fixed blades will not allowed and the knife can not have a molded grip. box cutters and razor blades will remain prohibited. the tsa will also start allowing passengers to carry on some sporting equipment, including ski poles, hockey sticks, up to two golf clubs, pool cues and lacrosse sticks. they will also allow bats that weigh less than 24 ounces and are shorter than 24 inches. the bat can be longer than 24 inches as long as it meets the weightonce again, these new changes take effect on april 25th. in the newsroom, charles clifford kron 4 news.

residual showers. lighter rain with pockets of heavier rainfall earlier. that has returned over the heart of the city. over the san mateo coast. through pacifica as we speak. futurecast showing the main band of rainfall by midnight. already in the central valley but already some residual showers. we will see spotty showers for the morning commute. you might need your intermittent windshield wipers. even for the afternoon, some isolated showers but taking them burleycue. the chances will be hit and miss we could see some of thunderstorms. that threat is offshore. the high temperatures for tomorrow is bringing cold air. temperatures are struggling to get to the mid '50s

tomorrow. napa, concord and fremont. definitely cooler you will need your jacket. for the sierras, much of that snowfall will be for the sierras of the high country. and widespread snowfall lasting by 10:00 p.m. and even flurries after that. snow showers tomorrow on thursday and a couple of inches with lingering flurries on friday. a look at your extended forecast. we will be dealing with showers and thursday temperatures are taking a dive. he specially on thursday with local snow showers by 3,000 ft.. we are going to see improving conditions. >> pam: restoration crews

spent another day in san francisco's west portal neighborhood today -- working to clean up homes affected by last week's water main break. residents say, they are worried about the upcoming rain. and how that could add to the damage. however -- officials with the san francisco water department say, they don't expect any additional problems. >> this would not add detrimentally to be. >> "that soil settlement" >> pam: three of the homes in that neighborhood have been red-tagged because they are structurally unsafe. so far, the bill for all of the damage totaled half a- million dollars. that estimate is expected to increase quite a bit. by the time all of the repairs are completed. >> two men say. they were asked to leave a mall near sacramento. because they were holding hands and kissing. the gay couple says, they just want to be treated like everyone else. marin austin investigates. >> "i love you. cheek to show him affection and there's nothing wrong with. >> "like this." >> reporter: it seems harmless, but when two gay men, daniel chesmore and jose guzman, did it at the roseville galleria on saturday, they say they were asked to leave. >> "if you continue to kiss you will be asked to leave the mall period." >> reporter: when a security guard confronted them, they started recording. >> "and i told you when i first walked up that we contact any couple, any couple." >> reporter: and that's what we wanted to know. so we went down to the roseville galleria and we spotted several male and female couples, holding hands and smooching right out in the open. and as the hours passed none of them were asked to leave. >> "in a perfect world there should be no disparate treatment between straight couples and gay couples." >> reporter: there is no rule listed in the galleria code of conduct that indicates the mall's policy on public displays of affection, so to find out what that policy is, we went down to the management office and we asked the general manager. >> reporter: "are people allowed to kiss on the cheek then?" >> "you know what." >> reporter: he didn't
